Now classified as a sub group of Rhododendron; Azaleas can be pruned and trimmed to be used in a formal garden, as hedges or kept small for growing on a patio in pots. Trimmed in cloud form they can be used in oriental-style gardens. Excellent for mass group plantings The majority are single-flowered but some are hose-in-hose doubled, giving the appearance of one flower sitting inside another.
Vast range of hot colours from reds and strong oranges to soft pastels. The fragrance of some is exceptional. The flowers open as the foliage breaks into growth. Many of them have striking autumn leaf colour just before their leaves fall off. Often used in mass planting in woodlands or borders.
