Vigorous, upright, evergreen shrub, valued for green foliage and large, flat flowers with broad, pink petals boldly streaked with carmine. Flowers tend to hang face downwards. Prefers sheltered site, sunny or shade, and any well drained neutral/acid soil.
Somewhere between Hardy in a sheltered site in most UK, Coastal France and northern Italy and Pacific Northwest gardens, but may be damaged in severest winters. Often early into flower and growth. AND Hardy in all but the coldest parts of Pacific Northwest and UK, France and northern Italy, around Bergen (Norway) and mildest parts of NE USA such as Cape Cod and parts of Long Island.
