Kiusianum
Bred from kaempferi x malvatica; will reach heights of 1.5m plus. Orange and red forms, best in partial shade to reduce flower fade.
R.kiusianum or Kyushu Azalea is native of southern Japan, undoubtedly in Japanese gardens for centuries before it was described to the west in 1914.
Kyushu Azalea likes bright shade to full sun. Like moist very well draining soil. Flowers, leaves, & young shoots are covered in fine hairs. Semi-deciduous to semi-evergreen. Strongly evergreen in a protected location. The leaves often have striking autumn coloration.
